Farewell Eynesbury Senior College

Eynesbury Senior College (ESC) will close at the end of the 2021 academic year.

This was a difficult decision that followed careful and considered deliberation by the College Board.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a devastating impact on international education and on those institutions that rely on international students.

With international borders closed, ESC’s international education partner Navitas, which recruits and enrols international secondary school students, was forced to review its operations and will no longer offer secondary courses.

Before the international border closure, Navitas provided Eynesbury Senior College with up to 40 percent of its cohort through international students.  It also provides us with staff, our Franklin Street campus, and essential shared facilities.

Unfortunately, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Navitas can no longer provide us with a campus or the necessary facilities, support and, importantly, the international students that we require to remain operational.

Without these international students, the operating model for Eynesbury Senior College is not viable.

The College Council explored and exhausted every available option, including relocation of our campus and partnerships with other educational institutions.

None of these options proved feasible. There is no viable alternative to closure at the end of the year.

The College’s current strong financial position enabled it to explore the possibility of remaining open until the end of 2022.  However, after consideration, the Council decided against this option.

Without the financial benefits of international students, remaining open in these circumstances could compromise the quality of the education that our students expect and deserve and affect our ability to attract and retain quality teaching staff.

Although the decision to close in December 2021 has been incredibly difficult, it is the most responsible decision made in the best interests of our valued students and staff.

We have a wonderful community at Eynesbury Senior College and, for now, it is ‘business as usual’ at as we continue to deliver the excellent standard of education our students expect.
