Course Selection

In selecting subjects for Year 10, Stage 1 and Stage 2, students should consider the following:

  • In which subjects am I most successful?
  • Which subjects do I enjoy the most?
  • What are my plans for the future?
  • Which subjects are necessary or best to help me achieve my goals?
  • Can I be successful in those subjects?
  • Am I keeping my options open so I can change my mind about what I want to do in the future?
  • Which subjects will let me maintain a balance between study and leisure time?
  • Which subjects will help me develop skills in areas that interest me?
Future Plans

Some students starting Year 10, 11 and 12 have clear ideas about career pathways or potential directions for the future. Many, however, do not. It can often take a long time for young people to make decisions about their future, sometimes long after finishing Year 12 and well into tertiary study.

Our Student Counsellor can provide detailed information about careers, courses and tertiary entrance requirements as well as general advice.

For Year 10s, Eynesbury provides Work Experience opportunities during the year. Available to all students are Tertiary Entrance Handbooks, SATAC Guides and University Handbooks; websites and Open Days are also very valuable sources of information. The Centrelink Career Information Centre can provide additional information.

Subject Availability

The availability of subjects outlined in the guides listed below are subject to enrolments and staff resources.

Information about content in some subject outlines is to be considered as a guide only. Individual members of staff reserve the right to tailor courses to students' and their interests.

Counselling Procedures

It is important that students, parents and caregivers, together with Eynesbury staff, are involved in the subject selection process. Subject Selection booklets will be distributed, Information sessions for parents and students will be held, interviews will be conducted on a one-to-one basis, and follow-up will occur as required by families or staff at Eynesbury. We want all students to be supported in this important decision-making process.
