A timetable system that works for you
Eynesbury's timetable offers unique opportunities for students to be flexible with their subject choices. The timetable is generated after most students have chosen subjects, unlike in other schools where students are given choices from defined combinations.
Because of our flexibility, students can:
- undertake specialist sport commitments
- study subjects which Eynesbury does not offer (for example, certain languages and Dance), in other schools
When considering subjects to be studied at Eynesbury, students should identify if they intend to study elsewhere and whether this study is at Year 10, Stage 1 or Stage 2 level.
Our system is organised around students' subject choices rather than making these choices fit the timetable. Our school hours are longer than most secondary schools, with classes made available later in the day, which provide opportunities for students from other schools to study a subject at Eynesbury. On top of this, we also try to incorporate 'free periods' during the day rather than the usual and often 'unproductive' time after school.
Here are some examples of our timetables which give you an idea of what a typical week might look like at Eynesbury as a student of Year 10, 11 or 12. Of course, your own timetable may look somewhat different to this depending on the subjects choices you make.
The flexibility of our timetable means students have a greater opportunity than in other schools to work one-to-one with teachers outside class times. Eynesbury timetables have larger blocks of unscheduled time which can be used by the students to study privately, further research a current project, access the library or computer pools, receive one-to-one help from teachers, or provide a rest and relaxation period between classes.
The classes Eynesbury offers run longer than average senior secondary school classes allowing ample time for students and teachers to access areas of interest relevant to coursework, such as an exhibition at the Art Gallery, the law courts for legal studies or Parliament House for politics. Eynesbury has also been known to closely work with the universities, which are happy to provide us with extension work and course information for the students.
We try to work with our students to give the flexibility to pursue sporting and other commitments outside of the College, by allowing students to work from home if they have a later start or earlier finish to the day.
